Rebuilt 1992 Polk Monitor 10 Series 2 Speakers

SOLD

  • Completely rebuilt crossovers using high-quality film capacitors: Sonicaps for the tweeter section and Jantzen Cross Caps for the midrange and bass sections.
  • Upgraded tweeters to the well-regarded Polk RDO-198 replacements. These are a direct replacement for the original SL-2500 tweeters that came from the factory and do not require crossover modifications. Also see this link for further verification.
  • Hurricane nuts installed on all drivers and passive radiators for a more secure mounting and improved bass performance.
  • Driver magnets secured with JB Weld to address a known failure point in the original configuration. See photos below for process pictures as well as photos of the completed speakers. Additional process notes can be found on AudioKarma in this forum post: https://audiokarma.org/forums/threads/1992-polk-monitor-10-series-2-crossover-upgrade.1031247/

Some light cosmetic dings consistent with age, but nothing particularly noticeable from a normal listening distance.

The included stands show some age-related wear but are fully functional. These speakers benefit from being properly elevated, and the stands were originally sold with the Monitor 10s.

These speakers are fully functional and have been used for approximately one year in my home system following the rebuild. They have performed flawlessly and sound fantastic.

The rebuilt crossovers and RDO-198 tweeters give these Monitor 10s a clean, balanced presentation with tight bass, excellent midrange presence, smooth highs, and very good imaging.

If you’re a fan of vintage Polk or simply looking for a great-sounding, highly serviceable vintage speaker, these should provide many more years of enjoyment.
